Hamburg, late fifties, early sixties

Silent footage from Hamburg's Reeperbahn and Grosse Freiheit from the late fifties and early sixties, as provided by the Kino Library. Apparently filmed by Bruno Koschmider, the very man who hired the Beatles to play at his Indra and Kaiserkeller clubs in 1960. There is fotage of the Kaiserkeller here, the Bambi Lichthaus (not "Kino", although the British called it that), as well as the Star Club sign with the Beatles' name on the sign outside. The colour film gives a great view of all the neon lights which was an eye-catching feature of the district.
